Bhajan & Devotional Singing Classes in South Africa

Devotional singing your family will actually sing together

Not every family wants an exam ladder. Many simply want the child to be able to sing at the evening lamp, lead a bhajan at Navaratri, or hold a Thiruppugazh at the temple without reading it off a phone. That is a real syllabus of its own, and this is it.

Why families choose us

Devotional singing your family will actually sing together

Learning a bhajan from a video gets the tune roughly right and the words roughly wrong. Taught properly, the same song arrives with its raga, its tala, its pronunciation and its meaning, which is the difference between a child performing a song and a child singing something they understand.

South Africa’s Indian community began arriving in 1860 as indentured labourers in the Natal sugar fields, and Durban is still the largest Indian-origin city outside Asia. Families here are often fifth generation or more; Tamil, Telugu and Hindi-speaking roots survive in temple life and festivals, but the Sanskrit underneath has frequently gone quiet, and parents come to us to bring it back.

Bhajans, Thevaram, Thiruppugazh, Divya Prabandham and Annamacharya kritis

Slokas set to raga, so daily chanting and singing reinforce each other

Pronunciation and meaning taught line by line, not left to imitation

Festival-ready repertoire, timed to Navaratri, Janmashtami and Deepavali

Timings

Batch timings for South Africa

Live classes on SAST, scheduled around your week rather than ours.

South Africa is three and a half hours behind India and does not use daylight saving, so the gap never moves. Weekday 4:30 to 6:30 PM SAST is 8:00 to 10:00 PM in India, and Saturday morning batches run too.

Most Indian South African families live in Durban and the wider KwaZulu-Natal, with significant communities in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Getting started is easy

Three simple steps to begin

1. Tell us about your child

Call or WhatsApp us and say where your child is starting from. For bhajan & devotional singing classes that matters — the mentor pitches the first class to what they can already do.

2. Personal guidance from a mentor

A real, live class, not a sales call. The mentor works with your child for the full session and then tells you honestly whether this is the right class of ours for them.

3. Pick a slot that survives the school week

We place your child in a batch built for SAST. South Africa is three and a half hours behind India and does not use daylight saving, so the gap never moves.

“The Ramayana classes are the highlight of my daughter’s week. She now teaches us the values she learns. As NRI parents in Dubai, this connection to our culture is priceless.”

No. This track was built for families who want the singing, not the syllabus. We teach only as much sruti and tala as the songs require, and a child with no background can start here directly.
