A thoughtfully structured journey
Each module builds on the last, nurturing understanding, confidence and character, step by step.
Sruti, Breath & Voice Culture
Sitting with the tambura sruti until the ear locks to it, then breath, open-throat production and the daily voice warm-up. Nothing after this module works if this one is skipped.
Sarali & Janta Varisai
The graded exercises every Carnatic vocalist starts with, in Mayamalavagowla, sung in three speeds so the child learns kalapramanam alongside the notes.
Alankaram & the Seven Talas
The sapta tala alankarams, with the tala kept by hand, not by counting in the head. This is where rhythm stops being guesswork.
Geetham & Swarajathi
First compositions with sahitya, where swara, meaning and rhythm finally meet, and the child sings music rather than exercises.
Varnam & Krithi
Adi tala varnams, then krithis from the Trinity and from Purandaradasa and Annamacharya, with gamaka taught phrase by phrase.
Raga & Manodharma
Recognising ragas by their phrases, then early alapana and simple kalpana swara, the beginning of a musician thinking for themselves.
Devotional & Tamil Isai Repertoire
Bhajans, Thevaram, Thiruppugazh, Divya Prabandham and slokas set to raga, the songs a family actually sings at home and at festivals.
Kutcheri & Stage Preparation
Building a short concert set, singing with a sruti box, handling nerves, and performing for an audience at our termly showcase.
