Yoga Classes for Kids in South Africa

Bala Yoga that feels like play and works like training

Children today sit more than any generation before them, hunched over tablets, homework and school desks. Bala Yoga gives that body somewhere else to go: animal poses, yoga stories and breathing games that open the hips and shoulders, and a short calm at the end that a restless child genuinely learns to settle into.

Why families choose us

Bala Yoga that feels like play and works like training

An adult yoga class shrunk down for children loses them in ten minutes, because holding a pose and counting breaths is not how a seven-year-old engages. Bala Yoga is built the other way round, from play towards practice, so the child keeps coming back and the posture and focus arrive almost without them noticing.

South Africa’s Indian community began arriving in 1860 as indentured labourers in the Natal sugar fields, and Durban is still the largest Indian-origin city outside Asia. Families here are often fifth generation or more; Tamil, Telugu and Hindi-speaking roots survive in temple life and festivals, but the Sanskrit underneath has frequently gone quiet, and parents come to us to bring it back.

Animal poses and yoga stories that hold a child’s attention for the whole class

Posture work that counters hours of screens and school desks

Flexibility and body awareness built without it ever feeling like exercise

Small live batches of children close in age, never a mixed adult class

Timings

Batch timings for South Africa

Live classes on SAST, scheduled around your week rather than ours.

South Africa is three and a half hours behind India and does not use daylight saving, so the gap never moves. Weekday 4:30 to 6:30 PM SAST is 8:00 to 10:00 PM in India, and Saturday morning batches run too.

Most Indian South African families live in Durban and the wider KwaZulu-Natal, with significant communities in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Getting started is easy

Three simple steps to begin

1. Tell us about your child

Call or WhatsApp us and say where your child is starting from. For yoga classes for kids that matters — the mentor pitches the first class to what they can already do.

2. Personal guidance from a mentor

A real, live class, not a sales call. The mentor works with your child for the full session and then tells you honestly whether this is the right class of ours for them.

3. Pick a slot that survives the school week

We place your child in a batch built for SAST. South Africa is three and a half hours behind India and does not use daylight saving, so the gap never moves.

“Living in California, we worried our kids would lose their roots. The online Shloka and Gita classes changed that. They chant every morning now, and understand what the words mean.”

Yoga Classes for Kids in South Africa, FAQs

It gives the body a regular counterweight to hours of sitting, opening the chest, shoulders and hips and building awareness of how they sit. It will not replace sensible screen limits, but children do become noticeably more aware of slumping.
