Digital Art Classes for Kids & Teens in New Zealand

Digital art, on top of real drawing skill

A tablet does not make a child a better artist, it makes a mediocre drawing faster to produce. So this class runs the fundamentals and the software together: construction and value on one side, layers, brushes and colour management on the other. What children want to make — characters, scenes, their own comics — is the vehicle for both.

Why families choose us

Digital art, on top of real drawing skill

We will not spend the hour teaching menus. Software changes and the skill underneath does not, so roughly half of every class is drawing and half is doing it digitally. Children arriving with no traditional drawing experience are usually asked to take the pencil class alongside, and we will say so at the trial.

New Zealand is the furthest ahead of any community we teach, six and a half to seven and a half hours ahead of India, and the most likely to be told by other providers that a workable slot does not exist. It does; it just has to be built deliberately rather than borrowed from the Australian timetable.

Timings

Batch timings for New Zealand

Live classes on NZST, scheduled around your week rather than ours.

Weekday 4:30 to 6:30 PM NZST, which is late morning to early afternoon in India, so mentors are fresh rather than at the end of a teaching day. Saturday morning NZ batches also run. Daylight saving is handled on our side.

Auckland accounts for most of our New Zealand families, with Wellington and Christchurch following. Batches are often shared with Australian families in the neighbouring hour.

The curriculum

Digital Art Classes for Kids & Teens, module by module

What a year of digital art classes for kids & teens actually covers, in the order we teach it.

01

Set Up and Sketch

Canvas, resolution, brushes and a clean rough sketch. Getting a workflow before getting clever.

02

Layers, Properly

Line, colour, shadow and highlight kept separate, and why non-destructive working saves an hour a piece.

03

Line Art

Stabilisation, taper and weight. Making a digital line that looks decided rather than corrected.

04

Colour and Light

Flats, clipping masks, shadow and glow, and how digital light behaves unlike paint.

05

Character Design

Silhouette, expression and consistency, so the same character survives five drawings.

06

A Finished Piece

Rough to final illustration, exported and presented at the showcase.

Prefer a room, paper and paint on a table?

Arts & Painting is the one class we teach in person as well as online. Offline batches run at our arts studio in Jayanagar, Bengaluru, with the same mentors and the same curriculum as the online batches. Families outside Bengaluru take the online batches, which cover the identical curriculum.

Getting started is easy

Three simple steps to begin

1. Tell us about your child

Call or WhatsApp us and say where your child is starting from. For digital art classes for kids & teens that matters — the mentor pitches the trial to what they can already do.

2. Free trial with a mentor

A real, live class, not a sales call. The mentor works with your child for the full session and then tells you honestly whether this is the right class of ours for them.

3. Pick a slot that survives the school week

We place your child in a batch built for NZST. Weekday 4:30 to 6:30 PM NZST, which is late morning to early afternoon in India, so mentors are fresh rather than at the end of a teaching day.

Timezone was our biggest worry. Smriti Samskara made it effortless, the Mahabharata class fits perfectly into our London evenings, and the storytelling quality is simply exceptional.

Any drawing tablet or an iPad with a stylus. Krita and Ibis Paint are free and completely sufficient; Procreate is fine if you already own it. We teach principles that carry across apps rather than one program’s menus.
