Online Carnatic Music Classes in Mauritius

Carnatic classes that build the voice in the right order

The ladder in Carnatic music is not decoration. Sruti, then sarali varisai, then janta, then alankaram, then geetham, then varnam, and each rung only holds because the one under it was done properly. Most children who stall after two years stalled because a class skipped ahead to songs while the ear was still guessing at the note.

Carnatic classes that build the voice in the right order

A recorded lesson can teach a child the notes of a varisai. It cannot hear that they are singing the ri a shade flat, and a flat ri repeated for six months is very hard to unlearn. Every batch is live and small enough that each child sings alone and gets that correction while the note is still in the air.

Mauritius is the one country outside South Asia where most of the population is of Indian origin, descended from indentured workers who landed at the Aapravasi Ghat from 1834 onwards. Hindu practice is part of public life — the Maha Shivaratri pilgrimage to Ganga Talao is a national event — so children here usually arrive knowing the rituals and wanting the words and meaning to be taught properly.

The traditional order kept: sarali, janta, alankaram, geetham, varnam

Three speeds from the first month, so kalapramanam is never bolted on later

Tala kept by hand, not counted silently in the head

Taught by a concert vocalist graded by All India Radio, not an assistant

Timings

Batch timings for Mauritius

Live classes on MUT, scheduled around your week rather than ours.

Mauritius is an hour and a half behind India, with no daylight saving. Weekday 5:00 to 7:30 PM Mauritius time is 6:30 to 9:00 PM in India, and weekend morning batches run too. It is one of the easiest timezones we teach into.

Getting started is easy

Three simple steps to begin

1. Tell us about your child

Call or WhatsApp us and say where your child is starting from. For online carnatic music classes that matters — the mentor pitches the first class to what they can already do.

2. Personal guidance from a mentor

A real, live class, not a sales call. The mentor works with your child for the full session and then tells you honestly whether this is the right class of ours for them.

3. Pick a slot that survives the school week

We place your child in a batch built for MUT. Mauritius is an hour and a half behind India, with no daylight saving.

“The Ramayana classes are the highlight of my daughter’s week. She now teaches us the values she learns. As NRI parents in Dubai, this connection to our culture is priceless.”

Questions

Online Carnatic Music Classes in Mauritius, FAQs

Voice is the discipline that survives the screen best, because everything the mentor needs is audible. The child sings alone, the mentor hears the sruti slip and corrects it in that moment. Families across Mauritius learn this way with us every week.
