Yoga for Knee Pain in South Africa

Yoga that works around your knees, not over them

Knee pain changes how a person moves long before it stops them: avoiding stairs, sitting on the floor less, standing up from a chair with both hands. This Therapeutic Yoga class is built around keeping the body moving without loading painful joints, with chair support throughout, strengthening for the muscles around the knee and gentle mobility within a comfortable range.

Why families choose us

Yoga that works around your knees, not over them

Most yoga classes quietly assume healthy knees: kneeling, deep squats, cross-legged sitting and lotus poses. With arthritis or joint pain, those are exactly what can aggravate things. Here every pose has a chair or standing version, the mentor asks what your doctor or physiotherapist has advised, and anything that hurts is simply replaced.

South Africa’s Indian community began arriving in 1860 as indentured labourers in the Natal sugar fields, and Durban is still the largest Indian-origin city outside Asia. Families here are often fifth generation or more; Tamil, Telugu and Hindi-speaking roots survive in temple life and festivals, but the Sanskrit underneath has frequently gone quiet, and parents come to us to bring it back.

Chair-supported practice throughout, with no kneeling or deep squats required

Strengthening for the thighs and hips that support the knees

Gentle joint mobility within a comfortable, pain-free range

Practise at home, without stairs, travel or a studio floor

Timings

Batch timings for South Africa

Live classes on SAST, scheduled around your week rather than ours.

South Africa is three and a half hours behind India and does not use daylight saving, so the gap never moves. Weekday 4:30 to 6:30 PM SAST is 8:00 to 10:00 PM in India, and Saturday morning batches run too.

Most Indian South African families live in Durban and the wider KwaZulu-Natal, with significant communities in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Getting started is easy

Three simple steps to begin

1. Tell us who the class is for

Call or WhatsApp us and say who is joining and where they are starting from. For yoga for knee pain that matters — the mentor pitches the first class to their age, body and experience.

2. Personal guidance from a mentor

A real, live class, not a sales call. The mentor works with you for the full session and then tells you honestly whether this is the right class and batch of ours.

3. Pick a slot that fits your week

We place you in a batch scheduled for SAST, around work, family and daily routine rather than across them.

“Timezone was our biggest worry. Smriti Samskara made it effortless, the Mahabharata class fits perfectly into our London evenings, and the storytelling quality is simply exceptional.”
