Online Drawing Classes for Kids in Melbourne

Drawing classes that start with learning to look

Children do not draw what is in front of them, they draw what they believe is in front of them — a symbol for an eye, a symbol for a hand. Teaching drawing means interrupting that. We work on looking before technique: measuring by eye, noticing the shape of the gap between two things, and drawing the line that is actually there.

Why families choose us

Drawing classes that start with learning to look

This is the class for a child who wants to get genuinely good, and it is more demanding than a craft hour. There is repetition in it. There are weeks of shading a single sphere. What comes out the other side is a child who can draw anything in front of them, which is a different thing from a child with a folder of nice pictures.

Melbourne accounts for most of our Australian families. Several arrived through the Bharatanatyam community that Nrithyakshetra, our parent academy, is part of, and a good number of Melbourne children learn dance and shlokas alongside each other.

Observation trained deliberately, the skill everything rests on

Proportion and measuring by eye, not by grid tracing

One and two-point perspective, taught properly

Light and shade, from a single sphere up to a full still life

Figures and faces built on construction, not on formulas

Digital sketching on a tablet for the 10-15 group

Timings

Batch timings for Melbourne

Live classes on AEST/AEDT, scheduled around your week rather than ours.

Weekday 5:00 to 7:00 PM Melbourne time, which is the late Indian afternoon, plus Saturday mornings. Australia is the most comfortable overlap we have with India — no early starts on either side.

Point Cook, Tarneit, Glen Waverley, Wyndham Vale and Craigieburn are our strongest Melbourne pockets. Daylight saving shifts the offset for part of the year and we move the batch rather than the family.

The curriculum

Online Drawing Classes for Kids, module by module

What a year of online drawing classes for kids actually covers, in the order we teach it.

01

Looking

Measuring by eye, negative space and drawing the gap rather than the thing. Uncomfortable and essential.

02

Line Control

Weight, confidence and continuous line. Building a hand that goes where the eye asked.

03

Light and Shade

One sphere, one light source, many weeks. Then cylinders, drapery and a full still life.

04

Perspective

Horizon, vanishing points and one and two-point construction, applied to a real street or room.

05

Faces and Figures

Proportional construction, then gesture, so people stop being the hard part.

06

Digital Sketching (10-15)

The same skills on a tablet, layers and pressure, for children who want to draw seriously.

Prefer a room, paper and paint on a table?

Arts & Painting is the one class we teach in person as well as online. Offline batches run at our arts studio in Jayanagar, Bengaluru, with the same mentors and the same curriculum as the online batches. Families outside Bengaluru take the online batches, which cover the identical curriculum.

Getting started is easy

Three simple steps to begin

1. Tell us about your child

Call or WhatsApp us and say where your child is starting from. For online drawing classes for kids that matters — the mentor pitches the trial to what they can already do.

2. Free trial with a mentor

A real, live class, not a sales call. The mentor works with your child for the full session and then tells you honestly whether this is the right class of ours for them.

3. Pick a slot that survives the school week

We place your child in a batch built for AEST/AEDT. Weekday 5:00 to 7:00 PM Melbourne time, which is the late Indian afternoon, plus Saturday mornings.

My daughter used to freeze on stage. After a few months of public speaking classes, she confidently delivered a speech at her school assembly. The mentors are patient and truly gifted.

Questions

Online Drawing Classes for Kids in Melbourne, FAQs

Almost none of it is. Drawing accurately is mostly trained observation plus hand control, and both improve with correct practice. The children who are called talented are usually the ones who drew more, earlier.
