Online Puja Classes in South Africa

Learn to perform the puja, not just attend one

Most households in South Africa perform some form of daily puja, and most perform it from memory — a sequence half-learnt from a grandparent, with the mantras approximated and a few steps quietly dropped. These classes teach the procedure as it is actually laid down: each step in its place, each mantra pronounced correctly, and the reason behind both.

Why families choose us

Learn to perform the puja, not just attend one

A video can show you the order of a puja. It cannot hear that your Saṅkalpa is garbled, or notice that you have been skipping Ācamana for a year. Classes are live and small for that reason, and every learner chants and performs alone while the teacher listens.

South Africa’s Indian community began arriving in 1860 as indentured labourers in the Natal sugar fields, and Durban is still the largest Indian-origin city outside Asia. Families here are often fifth generation or more; Tamil, Telugu and Hindi-speaking roots survive in temple life and festivals, but the Sanskrit underneath has frequently gone quiet, and parents come to us to bring it back.

The meaning of each step, so the actions are understood and not merely copied

Ṣoḍaśopacāra, the sixteen offerings, taught one at a time with their mantras

Saṅkalpa and Kalasha puja, the steps most households skip or rush

A practice that needs no priest for the everyday worship of the home

Batch timings for South Africa

Live classes on SAST, scheduled around your week rather than ours.

South Africa is three and a half hours behind India and does not use daylight saving, so the gap never moves. Weekday 4:30 to 6:30 PM SAST is 8:00 to 10:00 PM in India, and Saturday morning batches run too.

Most Indian South African families live in Durban and the wider KwaZulu-Natal, with significant communities in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Getting started is easy

Three simple steps to begin

1. Tell us who the class is for

Call or WhatsApp us and say who is joining and where they are starting from. For online puja classes that matters — the mentor pitches the first class to their age, body and experience.

2. Personal guidance from a mentor

A real, live class, not a sales call. The mentor works with you for the full session and then tells you honestly whether this is the right class and batch of ours.

3. Pick a slot that fits your week

We place you in a batch scheduled for SAST, around work, family and daily routine rather than across them.

“Timezone was our biggest worry. Smriti Samskara made it effortless, the Mahabharata class fits perfectly into our London evenings, and the storytelling quality is simply exceptional.”
