A drawing class trains the hand on paper, at a desk, at eye level. Rangoli is a different plane, a different scale and an unforgiving medium, and most children who draw well on paper are lost the first time they work on the ground. We start with the dot grid, because symmetry on a floor is arithmetic before it is art.
Australia runs four and a half to five and a half hours ahead of India, which turns out to be the friendliest gap of all. An early evening class in Sydney or Melbourne is the middle of the Indian afternoon, so weekday batches are genuinely easy rather than a compromise.

Weekday 5:00 to 7:30 PM AEST is our main Australian window and it works for Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra alike. Perth families are three hours behind the eastern states and take an earlier slot. Daylight saving shifts are handled by us, not by you.
Melbourne and Sydney account for most of our Australian families, with Brisbane and Perth growing. Several families found us through the Bharatanatyam community that Nrithyakshetra, our parent academy, is part of.

The Dot Grid
Chukki and pulli. Counting, spacing, and why the grid is the whole design before a line is drawn.
Line and Loop
The kolam loop that travels around dots without lifting. Hand control at floor scale.
Symmetry
Four-fold and eight-fold. Working the repeat out so a design closes rather than nearly closes.
Powder and Colour
The pinch grip, filling evenly, blending edges, and stopping colours bleeding into each other.

Arts & Painting is the one class we teach in person as well as online. Offline batches run at our arts studio in Jayanagar, Bengaluru, with the same mentors and the same curriculum as the online batches. Families outside Bengaluru take the online batches, which cover the identical curriculum.

The mentor’s camera looks down at their floor and the child sets a phone or laptop to do the same, so both sides see the work from above. Families in Australia usually give the child a corner of the floor or a large sheet of card; either works.
