A drawing class trains the hand on paper, at a desk, at eye level. Rangoli is a different plane, a different scale and an unforgiving medium, and most children who draw well on paper are lost the first time they work on the ground. We start with the dot grid, because symmetry on a floor is arithmetic before it is art.
The USA is our largest community outside India, and it is spread across four time zones, which shapes everything about how we schedule. Most families who write to us are second-generation parents whose own Sanskrit came from a grandparent, and who have realised their children have no equivalent person to learn it from.

Batch timings for the USA
Live classes on PST/EST, scheduled around your week rather than ours.
Weekend mornings Eastern and Pacific are the two slots that fill first, because they land in the Indian evening and work for both coasts. Weekday batches run at 6:30 to 8:00 PM local on the East Coast. We do not ask a child in California to attend at 5 AM, and if the only slot we can offer you is a bad one we will say so.
Families join us from the Bay Area, New Jersey, Dallas, Seattle, Atlanta and Chicago in the largest numbers. Several batches have ended up entirely North American, which children like, they are learning alongside others in exactly the same position.

Line and Loop

Four-fold and eight-fold. Working the repeat out so a design closes rather than nearly closes.

Arts & Painting is the one class we teach in person as well as online. Offline batches run at our arts studio in Jayanagar, Bengaluru, with the same mentors and the same curriculum as the online batches. Families outside Bengaluru take the online batches, which cover the identical curriculum.

The mentor’s camera looks down at their floor and the child sets a phone or laptop to do the same, so both sides see the work from above. Families in the USA usually give the child a corner of the floor or a large sheet of card; either works.
